The Ministry of Foreign Affairs now has a special night watch, a so-called AC watch. This is a completely new function in the ministry, where it is now necessary to have a special employee to keep an eye on American President Donald Trump and his doings. For example, if Trump has said something new about Greenland, it is the AC watch's job to report exactly how the words were said. At 7 o'clock, a report must be ready for the Danish government and relevant offices on Slotsholmen. And if something critical has happened, the first steps must already have been taken.
The AC guard is just one example of how the Danish civil service has been reshuffled, upgraded or adjusted in order to better respond quickly to possible aggressive messages from Donald Trump . At the Danish embassy in Washington, the number of employees working with public diplomacy – communication aimed at the American public – has been doubled. The Greenland Representation in the same building has also been upgraded, just as the Prime Minister's Office has for a period of time strengthened its North Atlantic office, according to a survey conducted by Politiken.
"The threat is still largely in the air. We are still in a very serious place because we can now see that Trump's interest is serious. There is no doubt that Ken Howery (US ambassador, ed.) is in Copenhagen with the mandate to carry out Trump's policy," assesses Rasmus Sinding Søndergaard, senior researcher at the Danish Institute for International Studies.
